If you intend touring with longish daily stints, you really need a relaxed ride and although the Tmax would be 110% reliable, it isn't relaxing. The screen turbulence is bad and the 500 twin isn't exactly laid back, in fact it eggs you on to go faster. Luggage capacity isn't great and the swept up exhaust limits throw-over pannier size too.
The big burger or 'Wing would eat the miles with ease but both are expensive to buy and are big lardy machines even before you load on the luggage.
You could do a lot worse than a Piaggio X9 500 if you could find a nice late model. They cruise in a very laid back fashion, are pretty economical on long runs as long as you keep to legal speeds, and there are plenty of dealers who can fettle most things. Rider weather protection is as good as anything but the seat can give you a numb bum after a while.
They are cheaper too second hand and as long as it's been looked after it should be fine. Plenty of under seat room, will take a big top box, tunnel bag and panniers.

Well I know I biased Very Happy

but you could always try an early Aprilia Atlantic though the style doesn't suit everyones taste.

They are big, comfy and reasonably powerful (they are fitted with the Piaggio 500 master engine). The bike is well equipped and even has self cancelling indicators.

If you did consider one I would go for the later model, not the 02 model as the ECU can't be re-mapped with the later Euro3 mapping on the earlier models.

Mine has been used in all weathers and has been 100% reliable.

Again they will be fairly cheap to buy..in the main... Laughing

Ah what reg was your Atlantic as I know the earlier one's weren't as good as the later models?
Mine has been fab full stop with no issues and as mentioned used in all weathers.
Oh remembered one thing, in the year that I've owned it, twice now on approach to Devils Bridge up near Kirkby Lonsdale the temp gauge has stopped working.... Laughing

It's a regular stop for me. Once I've had a cup of hot choccy and switched on the ignition it's working again... Confused

That as I say has happened twice in a year on perfectly dry days.
My bike is definitely not effected by wet weather no matter how much it decides to piss down.... Laughing

Mine was an 02, so it was an early one. Wet weather troubles were eventually traced to a dodgy wire. The most entertaining instrument glitch was when the temp gauge (or maybe fuel gauge) did a complete circuit of the dial! I eventually said enough is enough when one of the rear shock absorbers started leaking oil......

Thanks for all the contributions.

My heart says T Max but my head says Burgman 650 cruiser with some performance if required.I'll just have to sell a few more birds (Budgies and Finches by the way!) I like the fact I can go quick if I need to but I don't want to feel the need to always go quick.

The lack of build quality and refinement with the Silverwing surprises me as Iv'e had many Honda motorbikes in the past!

I think a lot will depend on what I can get to test ride and for how long.
Even tho` I lke the GTS Vespa I need some extra comfort and Oomph if I'm going to participate on some of your Maxi runs!

I love the witty banter and information on this Forum,well done to all those who keep it running
