been testing a few of the latest machines, mainly the fuoco, the gp800, mp3 400, nexus 500, nexus 250, and also the new shape runner 200.
I'm afraid I don't buy second hand any more after a string of bad experiences ( try crank snapping 200 yards from shop and also findin out you got a stolen scoot)
looking to buy summat from the above, but I don't know any long term nexus 250 owners? any on here who can share ownership experiences?
I rode to glasgow on a nexus 500 last year, and enjoyed it, and wondered how the 250 version fares. I have only ridden the 250 for about 3 hours across the cat n fiddle road and along snakes pass, and like the mid range of it despite the size.

The Nexus 250 is a Runner with different bodywork, totally different to the 500. I used to own the 500 version - see the link under my siggy banner to see what happened to it.
Look out for Boboking on here as he's owned a 250 Nexus for a while although he doesn't post very often. |

strangely enough, I thought almost the same thing. seemed very comaprable to the 200vxr, except seemed a bit more heavier.
I dunno, but for some strange reason, I found the 250 alot more comfier than the 500 over long distances? (200+)

There's nothing wrong with the Nexus, it's only Tit-max owners who say there is as they know the Nexus is better than their Tit-max._________________ Rutland rideout

personally, I found the tmax a very noisy ride due to the height of the windshield, but I know there are different versions available. It did have a nice ride postion which I preferred to the nexus, but the running costs and parts thing is an issue for me.
previous experience shows me that yammy parts are expensive, and the dealers can be a little "look down the nose" at other bikes.. well,, thats the nottingham dealer anyway!
all scoots have their downfalls, and for me this years main downfall is the colourscheme of the 08 nexus...too much red! gimme the 07 version any day.

Ignore him Phil, he stripped his Nexus down and when he put it back together some things started playing up so rather than blame himself he prefers to blame Gilera. |

having owned many scooters in the past, I have found its the jap scooters that are poorly backed up by their dealers. the italians are the opposite..but I do agree about build quality...the dragster was awful!
my local yammy dealer is 30 miles away, not too bad I know, but my gilly dealer is 2 miles from me and I have become his test rider for his new stock which I consider a privilege as its not every day you get to spend 5hr on a gp800 and the next on a fuoco.
from bike ownership in general (I am 35 and have been riding since aged 13 racing kawazaki moto x) I would agree that the japs have got the 2 wheeled thing in the bag..I just think its not quite there with scooters just yet.
I really think the tmax needs an update as it hasnt changed radically in the last 6 years or so.
the black max is me fave
ghost..I have spent time with the master dealer while stripping a nexus, and it doesnt seem as complicated as some brands (ie kymco) but it comes down to knowledge I suppose...

The Nexus 250 is a great scoot! I do a lot of touring on it! and as long as you don't like motorways is a great bike!, I had 94mph, but realisticly you're looking at 70-80 cruise speeds..
Downsides to the 250 bullet proof engine are that it lacks power once above 60mph, so overtaking can be a bit slow (but then I am a big chap! )
On the plus side, the 250 handles SOOOOOOOOO much better then the 500 (and looks better! ) I found the 500 terrible for town use, or use in traffic compared to the 250, due to the weight & size of the belt casing!!
So it all depends on what you want it for! If you're happy going on duel carriageways instead of motorways then it's great! perfect in town, much thinner then the 500 so filtering is easier too!
Great on fuel! will easily do 200+ miles to a tank & the storage can fit a full face helmet & there's a space under the seat which I use for my chain & two disk locks!
The 500 of course has a few more goodies (remote seat locking, emergency lights) but all can be added easily, But the 500 is generally more expencive!
Go for the 250 pal! Its great! hope this helps.._________________ Please refer all complaints to Clive and the boys!!
