The sales figures for scooters over 50cc in Italy,the home of Vespa and Piaggio make interesting reading.

Scooters over 50cc (Italy)

4: Yamaha Xmax 250 – 11,454
5: Yamaha TMax 500 – 10,537
6: Piaggio Beverly 250 – 10,160
7: Suzuki Burgman 400 – 9356
8: Yamaha XCity 250 – 8198
9: Piaggio Liberty 125 – 7382
10: Kymco People S200 – 6446
11: Yamaha Majesty 400 – 6025
12: Vespa LX125 – 5923
13: Vespa GTS250 – 5481

15: Piaggio Beverly 500 – 4655

I asume the Italians don't rate their own bikes much with only 2 in the top 10 and guess who took the top 3 places!!.

Earlier in the year, the new T-max was outselling everything else by some considerable margin!

OK the Honda SH range is probably a good little scooter, but is it THAT much better than all the others?????

No Tim the SH might be top in italy but if there was a world sales table then I reckon either piaggio or yamaha would be top

They start riding early in Italy - at 14- and the schools teach riding skills too - once theyve been hooked they keep on riding - weather is a plus too

Interesting reading for sure..............Yes I wonder why Piaggios don't feature a little higher. Obviously the Italians are about as loyal as we were when our industry collapsed partly through our own apathy (and poor workmanship). Very Happy
