After bitching about not getting any riding, I guess it's time to put my money where my mouth is.

This is a little route I've been thinking about on-and-off for ages. It's a bit of a whopper, but should be a grand day out. The plan is to start from Dunmow in Essex and head up to Sheringham (or Cromer if people prefer) on the North Norfolk coast. The route will take in Finchingfield and it's famous bends, Bury St Edmunds and Thetford Forest and the Brecks. Date is to be confirmed and won't be decided until after I see the summer roster in a week or two's time.

Who would be interested...?

Sounds good but I'm a wuss and I think I'd need a bigger scooter for that (not just engine size but physical size mainly). It takes me about 40 minutes to get to Dunmow in the car... I'd need to fill the tank about 3 times on a journey like that.

I've been up near Cromer before (but not on the bike) nice area. I'm sure it'd be a lovely day. But honestly That Man - would you do it on a Leonardo??

... I know I am a wuss..

But I did notice a difference in comfort levels on my Nexus ride.Sure the Nexus isn't really a tourer but the weather protection is a hell of a lot better than the leo's. On the motorway it was much more relaxed - partly due to it's 500cc engine but also a lot to do with not being constantly buffeted by the wind which I find really tiring on the leo. I also notice that I tend to tense my leg muscles when riding the Leo on motorways.. I don't know why I think it possibly is because I'm bracing against the airflow round the leg shields etc! I have to actually physically tell myself to relax.

The Leo is a wonderful town bike... in town and on back road blasts it's brilliant, but I couldn't imagine doing serious mileage on it. Whereas I could easily imagine myself taking the nexus down the motorway and backroads to Dorset to see my parents. Shame I can't buy one now... Sad

You cant compare a Icon_notworthy Nexus Icon_notworthy to a leo! Laughing and the ride will be easy pase country roads! & if I know that man he'll have this ride peiced togther from several bike mags! so there will be lots of stops! Wink

If you go.. I'll go! Icon_lol4

Don't see why not. I appreciate that the Leo is a bit short on rider comforts, but it's not that bad. The seat is good and the riding position fine.

I took mine up to the BMF Show in Peterborough one year and rode it up the M11 and A1(M) and, yes, that was tiring because I was having to brace myself against the windblast. However, the roads I'm planning on using are mostly minor 'A' roads, so the speeds will typically be 50-60mph which should be more comfortable.

**EDIT**

No bike mag route this time. It's all local knowledge. However, yes, I can stick in as many stops as folk want along the way.

Well maybe if it isn't lots of fast roads it'll be OK as you say the seat is very comfy. I've not ridden such a long distance though - I might have to get myself used to the idea first!!

I only rode 3000kms in the last year... Embarassed But then it has been off road due to brake and access problems (couldn't get it out of the garage for a while as a dead car was blocking the door), for some of the time and now it's broken.

It'll be all mended soon though and ready to roll again!

Anyway June is not good for me.

August or September maybe, I'll see how I get on with Mottza's rideout as that'll be a greater distance than I usually go!!
