It was fast as hell though, so I don't know whether you'd feel comfortable with your son riding a 100bhp rocket...
Thing is, there are many bikes he can buy within that price range. I wouldn't worry about the mileage on a sub £1000 bike. As long as it's cheap to run and insure, and a reliable bike with service history to back it, most japanese bikes are good anyway. |
TBH we've canned the idea of buying a half decent 600 and getting it 25kW restricted after an abortive time with a 1993 CBR600F which was, at first glance, ideal.
All fell apart on the insurance I'm afraid._________________ It ain't retro I've just been doing it that way for years!

That's why I suggested that model. Insurance was unbelievably cheap on it. I had no no claims discount when I bought it, I just had my full licence and I was living in slough, which is considered a high risk area, but I was still paying like £250 a year for it. (mind you, I think it was only TPFT)
Even you think it's a waste of time, I still would advice you to find one from autotrader, enter it's reg number and details on an insurance comparison site with your son's details and get a quote. You would be surprised!
Try www.thebikeinsurer.co.uk
I found the best quote for me on that site.
Bikes like GSXR, CBR, etc are popular models and still continued, but this is a discontinued bike which is also not popular and not many around. Therefore although it's a high powered sports bike, it's still considered by insurers as low risk.

Your son has limited the choices to only three vehicles, you want it located only in your area, and both want it for around a grand. Any other stipulations, such as colour or accessories?

Point 1: Read and quote properly, don't paraphrase.
| Capitano wrote: | but other manual bikes capable of being 33bhp restricted may be considered too. (snip)
He's looking at paying around a grand and being as I'll probably have to pick it up I'd prefer South of Watford, East of, say, Weymouth which is a big enough area I guess. (snip)
|
Point 2: The only stupid question is one you don't ask. We asked, we got. ie he bought a bike that fitted the requirements perfectly, tipped off by someone on one of the forums I posted this on.
Point 3: ...and your point is........?

Oh, gee. Darn sorry if I offended you. Notice the very visible laughing character at the end. It was an attempt at HUMOR, not an attack. No need to remove one of my precious few "K's" for that.

Point 4: No offence taken at all. I read it as banter and replied appropriately. Note the metal-style "owned" at the end followed by 2 smileys.
Point 5: Don't jump to conclusions. I didn't remove a K, someone else did, plus one of mine. I just gave you a K to make up for one you lost._________________ It ain't retro I've just been doing it that way for years!

Okay, my mistake. The assumption was made because my "K" disappeared just about the same time as your reply. I've added a "K" for you and we'll call it even.
By the way, glad your son got the bike he was after. Remind him to ride safe.

He's 18 and away at Uni. How much notice do you think he'll take of the "Old Man" ?
In all seriousness he has learnt well.
The banter was funny in an ironic way, too. After getting dozens of insurance quotes and chatting to various owners of restricted 600s and considering his £1000 to spend he narrowed his search to one model of bike and oh yeah he'd prefer it to be black, and we had to have it ready for the Bulldog Bash in early August!!!!
Tipped off by someone from another forum we found a 1200 mile old example with FSH, upgraded tyres, alarm, aftermarket fairing and various other extras for £1000.......and it was less than 15 miles away!
Me, I can't buy a new bike with cash in my pocket without immense hassle!_________________ It ain't retro I've just been doing it that way for years!
