A few bits about the X8

I prefer the lighter weights on the X8s I think its perfect as standard, the heavier weights have more wind drag and create more vagueness, but its upto you in the end.

I've got the new tyre on the rear and the bike instantly feels better. I could instantly feel that there was more grip there despite it being a new tyre and not scrubbed in. I haven't noticed the 20mph wobble either. I went for a 40 mile ride with some nice twisties and by the end of it I'm starting to get my cornering confidence back after it took a bit of a hit over the weekend with several slides!

I've put the smaller bar ends back on and I'll see how it feels tomorrow. I may or may not notice a difference!!

I have to agree ScooTerry.The tyre law for bigger bikes should be in line with cars.I mean,1mm on a 180mph R1? Crazy.

We have a constant battle with the Sales over tyre tread depth.They never want to fit new tyres when the tread is 1.5mm or near and we always want to fit new.It's not about making money for the workshop either,I just don't like to see bikes we have prepped going out with poor tyres,even if they are still 'legal' Evil or Very Mad

The tyre was just at the wear limit indicators when it was changed after about 700+ miles of riding since I bought it. In fairness JT did not really make any money out of selling me the X8 at all. I happen to know that I bought it for only £100 more than the trade in price, and they did have to replace the speedo sensor. What we didn't realise until the old tyre was removed was that it had already been plugged! I think if they had realised that they would have replaced the tyre. They operate a policy of not repairing tyres so I don't think they would have let it go if that had been known. The plug was very hard to spot from the outside. They only charged me £30 for the replacement tyre and fitting so I think that's fair.

Anyway the scooter feels much nicer now, and I do agree about the smaller bar ends feeling better. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride in this morning.

In view of what you paid for the scoot and what you paid for the tyre thats sounds fair enough.
The bike shop I worked in had a policy of not letting a bike go out sold regardless of price unless it had at least 2mm of tread on both tyres, I went to a smaller bike shop and they adopted the same policy.
I think its better and safer to 'build in' the cost of a tyre to the sale price than let some one who has no experience of a machine go out probably in the rain on a worn tyre.
Cambridgeshire Police used to chuck off bike tyres at 2-2.5 mm, don't know if they still do though.
They used Metzeler on their BMW's.

Admittedly I would have been happier to have had the tyre changed from the start as it did cause a few scary moments in the rain that we had the day before and on the Rutland ride!

Still it's all good now, and the scoot minus topbox and rack plus new tyre and smaller bar ends actually feels very sporty to ride - I'd say it's not far off the handling of the nexus despite looking very lardy in comparison. Very Happy

Unfortunately I need my top box on all the time, having had it it would be too easily missed, but even with the Givi screen it still shifts, 80-09 no probs!
Side winds can catch it a bit though.

Yes indeed a wolf in sheeps clothing!

I liked the top box it looked nice and obviously the X8 has huge storage then, I could feel it a bit when I had my rucksack in there on the way to Dorset as the weight is high up but even then it handled well on the twisty roads.

I still think it was a big mistake of Piaggio to discontinue it after only about a year in the uk, its still avaliable in places like Australia, no sign of the Xevo out ther.
That Xveo has'nt really caught on here I don't think, probably a few 125/250's, not many 400's though.
A Member on MSRC had one for only a few months, then got rid for an MP3 I think.
I said when it came out it was uglier than the X8, I still think that, even though its got the digi-dash etc, more to go wrong.
The X8 is pretty simple, no frilly bits to worry about.
I don't just say it because I have one, I would never have gone for the Xevo if the X8 had'nt existed.

I was having a good look at the Xevo 400 that Thompsons have as a demo bike. It's very similar to the X8 really . I think the dash looks nicer than the X8's, the digidash is more like the Nexus's than the X9's so shouldn't suffer the same problems.

I don't like the front mudguard but I do like the lights on the front of the XEvo quite like the X8's but a little more modern looking. I don't like the back rest though it's a ugly hunk of plastic.

Apart from the styling it was virtually the same as the X8, it just looks like an X8 with a body kit!!
