My Son just passed his A2 and is after a bigger bike.

He's restricting his search at the moment to Honda CB500, Kawasaki ER5, and Suzuki GS500 choices but other manual bikes capable of being 33bhp restricted may be considered too.

He's looking at paying around a grand and being as I'll probably have to pick it up I'd prefer South of Watford, East of, say, Weymouth which is a big enough area I guess.

We'll be trawling Biketrader, Gumtree, ebay, Friday Ad etc regularly so no need to point out any ones in there unless you personally know and can vouch for the bike/owner.

To be honest, that's what we'd prefer, one that's been recommended by someone. He's looking to keep it at Uni in Southampton for at least 2 years before it gets traded on so any bike considered needs to be capable of that with no major expenses.

No scooters though I'm afraid. He's yet to be enlightened by experience to the merits of the maxi scooter. Very Happy

Cheers mate but don't worry I think he has every bike sale website up in his favourites list.

I was more interested in anyone who has a "my neighbour is 85 and has owned his immaculate low mileage, dealer serviced CB500 for 5 years and wants to sell it for £500" kind of information.

ie anyone who has a good mate or someone they know of selling one that is a known good bike. The kind of bike that never even reaches the papers or websites.

Bit like that £850 yellow Mk1 T-Max that I knew of but didn't find out it was for sale til the guy had sold it!

You've probably already seen this, & it's over budget.

But just in case

The 600 Divvy? Yes it's not a bad price for a 12000 mile bike but it is out of his price range I'm afraid.

Cheers! Very Happy

I used to have a Suzuki RF600. It was cheap to buy and service, very good looking IMO, cheap insurance and a reliable bike.

It was fast as hell though, so I don't know whether you'd feel comfortable with your son riding a 100bhp rocket...

Thing is, there are many bikes he can buy within that price range. I wouldn't worry about the mileage on a sub £1000 bike. As long as it's cheap to run and insure, and a reliable bike with service history to back it, most japanese bikes are good anyway.

If he wanted a scooter the whole process would be SO much simpler!

He doesn't.....so it's not.... Laughing
