Would have loved to have come along but sadly tied to my desk at the minute!

I've been interested in the scoot racing scene for quite a while now - I just wish I had the technical knowhow (and the finances!) to build a pure racing scoot.

Unless of course there is a stock Fuoco class that I can race in - I'd apply for my ACU immediately! There's nothing I would want more at the minute to take the Fuoco for a blast round a proper track. Wink

JimC on Tscoot/X9ORC has taken his fuoco on a Brands hatch track day. He did pretty well in the novice class, of course the fuoco was slower in a straight line than the race reps but he did find he was getting annoyed at people slowing for corners so early as he could leave it so late to brake. I beleive he left big centre stand gouges all over the track.

Well.... it was flippin' warm! Completed just over thirty laps, lost most of the first session after the rear brake pedal parted company ( stripped thread!).

Overall quite chuffed to have taken six seconds off my lap compared to first time out! need to find the same again to be in mid grid though, but I know exactly where I'm losingthe time ( fast bends! ) need more speed / bigger balls! Icon_lol5

anyways - a couple of pics - courtesy of performance art!

Looks great.

One silly question - are lambrettas more widely used than vespas for racing? If so is it because they're more streamlined shape (which was the reason my dad had them rather than vespas in the 60's) or is it that the frame's better for handling/?

oooh .. now theres a question Icon_lol5...... yes Lambrettas are more popular, there are more options for tuning and modidying, and (arguably) they handle better.

The only Vespas in racing are small frames, based upon SS90 chassis. There are no bigger vespas racing, although in Europe its pretty much the reverse!

The front running Lambretta 200's are producing 35BHP+ ! Which from a 40+ year old 200cc Italian shopping trolley is pretty damn good!

35 bhp on those little wheels ... wow!

My dad had several lambretta's in the 60's he didn't go racing though. I think his favourite was an orange GP180. His parents owned a cafe in lynmouth in Devon and he used to take crate of milk on the Lambretta's footboards down countisbury hill which is the very steep bendy road from Lynton at the top of the cliffs down to Lynmouth at the bottom. It's the type of road that has gravel run-offs on the bends to stop cars if their brakes fail.. must have been very scary!

There's a great pic of my mum and dad sitting on a white lambretta in the 60's looking very moody.. I'll have to get them to scan it - it's a brilliant photo echoing the times.

I like to see these old classics and it's even better to see tuned ones that are faster than modern scooters!

Does your dad remember the Artavion scooter club that ran in that area in the 1960s Question

scoot looking good paul, racing is one of the scootering ambitions which I've yet to fulfill. I wouldn't mind building myself a tweaked small frame to start off with or maybe a old runner- idealy a group 4 lammy would be my ideal stead but I haven't enough pennies in the jar at the mo Sad Very Happy
