I'd like some advice please....
Next year I'm considering taking the ferry from North Shields Tyne and Wear (or Hull) to Amsterdam.Driving for a few hours to catch a sleeper train and the following morning arriving at the north of Italy.Touring down the leg of Italy and back up again. Very Happy
I'm new to the maxi malarky and as Iv'e had a good offer for the GTS I need to make a choice soon and get some miles under my belt.
All the maxis seem have good performance so I'm more interested in comfort and reliability. The new 650 Burgman is a wee bit too pricy for me and someone mentioned Suzuki made a 600cc Burgman in the past.Iv'e not come across this model.Could anyone help with information or get me a web link please?
ps if there's anyone who fancies joining me on the aformentioned trip,I welcome the company. (it will be planned a bit more accurately than the description above!)
Wink

You wont need too worry about finding a dealer should anything go wrong - there are thousands throughout italy - the Tmax could be an option as it would handle well on the italian roads - lots of lovely twisties - but you would need some large luggage - best places for accomodation are agriturismo - farms doing B&B - can give you some tips on places to ride - am off there in august - not with the max - by car for three weeks

Thanks for the advice.
Leg room could be a problem as I'm 6` 1" and 15 stone.Maybe some of the taller owners out there can comment?
Italy is such an amazing place to ride I'd welcome any help with places to go and stay.
Iv'e rang dealers around the Newcastle area as I'd like to try some Maxis out for size.Very frustrating,I'll have to try further afield.I thought a T Max was more of a sports scoot than a tourer.Has anyone out there done some serious touring on one? Preferably taller riders Smile

Your quite correct.

650 Burgman.

600 Honda Silverwing

Suzuki have now introduced a new 200cc Burgman to their fold. So thats 125/200/400 & 650 in the Burger range.

Hi, I would say the Tmax is a sports / tourer type scooter, I'm 5ft 10 ( think Laughing ) only had mine just over 2 months ( MK2 ) so my biggest trip so far was about 300 + miles in a day, but I'm going to germany on it soon & from here to the hotel it's 547 miles doing that in one go, so I'll beable to give you a better idea once back Laughing

Didn't know there was a 200cc. Price seems good at £3199, but they don't give the power output, which is worrying. Anyone know?

And ABS is only available if you fork out £7k for the 650. Evil or Very Mad

Had a 2001 Silverwing and now have a 2001 Tmax.

Silverwing can be made more comfortable if you remove the butt pad as its known. It was the only was I could ride mine (I'm over 6ft). Once that is removed I found the Silverwing very comfortable. I did a couple of 360 mile round trips on it and got off of it with no cramps or aches. Excellent under seat storage with a huge 55 litre capacity! Downside was the fuel consumption which was appalling. I regularly got low to mid 30s with enthusiastic riding! Was lucky to see low 40s at any time. I don’t remember what I got on those long runs? The Silverwing is heavy, very heavy, although it carries its weight well. The other biggest gripe was the woefully under sprung front end. Christ it was dire. I put a hyperpro front spring kit in (approx £80?) which transformed the bike. Minor niggles were incurable rattles, snatchy drive train and vibey power take up.

Tmax I seem to fit this very well? I find it very comfortable. I don’t think I've ever got less than 55mpg out of it! Disappointing storage compared to the Silverwing. Cant comment too much on the handling as mine has Maxxis tyres on and these really do not suit the bike at all. I have no confidence to push the bike at all. I've now put a Michelin on the front but the back still feels odd. Again it could do with a suspension upgrade at the front but is no where near as bad as the Silverwing.

Both good bikes but if I had to choose it would be the Tmax every time.

Hi I'm 6ft 3 and ride a TMax Mk2.
I have done comfortably 425 miles in 1 day solo. As far as touring is concerned you can stuff a soft bag under the seat and a 'tail pack' type bag between your feet in the 'well'.
I have to admit my choice of scoot is based on being able to keep up with motorcycles and the T Max fits the bill. I cannot imagine scooters being used 2 up for touring but I did follow a Silver Wing once which seem to be coping.
Good luck

Theres a Guy in Florida who rides each year to Alaska on a Silverwing. I think he has over a 100,000 miles on it now. I think he has a website or blog if I recall correctly. If I find the link I'll post it.

FWIW my wife really liked going on the back of my silverwing.

I would discount the Burger 200 for that sort of distance touring (1 or 2 up) but I'd certainly say that the 400 could be suitable.

I think many people go to the 650 Burger unecessarily, for me it's only warranted if you're doing 2-up with mucho luggage.

I reckon for single person the 400, especially if you like to tour (I.e. actually see something of the place you're wizzing through, so 50-70 mph) is ideal and way more economical.

Certainly TMax is also capable, plus a few Italian scoots (I.e. Xevo 400), as always a test ride (if you can manage to get one) is critical.

Good luck Laughing
