Sales of Scoots in Italy - Interesting!!

Japanese scooters have benefitted from huge advertising campaigns in Italy for a few years now. By this I mean HUGE as in mainstream TV ads featuring Italian celebrities etc.

That list stacks up with what I saw in Rome this year. ie lots of Honda SH's and lots of 400 Burgmans.

Latter in the article it reads With regard to scooter sales in particular, Honda boast 68,537 sales in 2007 with Piaggio ( not including gilera, Derbi or Aprilia) close behind with sales of 65,437. Wink

Step off the pavement in Rome without looking and if the first 5 Honda SH's don't get you the 400 Burgmans will! Very Happy

Just back from 8 days in Italy and I would say big wheelers rule Tmax rules 500cc + but lots of everything really inc old vespas .Best sight I saw was an old dear on the back of an old Vespa in the rain with her brolly up wedged under the old mans crash helmet no helmet for her of course and also market stalls set up on the toll booths on the Naples city bypass motorway selling dvds and bubble guns.Lots riding with no helmets near Naples.I would say riding and car driving is worse the more south you go single and double white lines are ignored and loads of cars going up the middle.This morning heading to airport quite a few silverwings heading in to Rome.I would say Rome tops Barcelona for crazy scooter riders more 50cc's there.Sorrento /Almalfi coast road is something else beautiful frightening if you get 1oo yd straight road thats about it blind bends cut out of the rock.You hear a horn it shits you up and then a bus comes around on your side of thr road.We had a 900 euro excess if we pranged it,knocked up 1100 Km in the 8 days we had it.Julian
